About ICOMSA 2024

The International Conference on Marine Science and Aquaculture (ICOMSA) started as an annual seminar in 2003 initiated by the Borneo Marine Research Institute (BMRI), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) together with our longstanding collaborators from Kindai University, Japan, as a platform to collaborate on research projects and share scientific findings in the field of marine science and aquaculture. Throughout the years as BMRI grew and expanded, the seminar garnered more participants from new collaborators and interested participants. From 2014 onwards the seminar is known as ICOMSA and it continues to attract participants to share invaluable knowledge, experience and problem-solving solutions over the conference platform.

The theme for ICOMSA 2024 is Ocean Futures: Advancing Sustainable Marine Science and Aquaculture. This theme is globally relevant and highlights the importance of sustainable practices in the future of our oceans in a changing world – as we face unprecedented challenges from climate change, pollution, overfishing and habitat degradation. It emphasizes the need for collaboration among scientists, industry players, policymakers, local communities and all stakeholders to address the challenges faced by marine science, aquaculture, and conservation. The theme acknowledges the interconnectedness of various aspects such as technology, biodiversity, seafood security, policy, and education, all aimed at achieving a more sustainable and resilient ocean ecosystem. The conference program will be structured to include papers dealing with overcoming the current challenges through innovative solutions.

We welcome your participation in ICOMSA 2024 and we look forward to receiving your abstracts for oral or poster presentation under any of the 14 sub-themes of the conference.
